Get to Know Plattduetsche Park
Plattduetsche Park has been Long Island and the surrounding area’s top destination for traditional German specialties and continental cuisine since 1901. On our eight-acre property, we are home to a restaurant, Biergarten, catering facilities, festivals, more than two dozen German clubs and so much more.
Our Storied History
Plattduetsche traces it roots back to 1883 when Plattduetsche Volksfest Vereen of Brooklyn (PVV) formed as a society for German immigrants from the flatlands of northern Germany. The group was dedicated to upholding German culture and tradition and supporting injured, sick and needy individuals and families within their local immigrant community.
In order to fund their mission, the group held many festivals and events. These gatherings also helped PVV to celebrate and promote the culture and traditions of their homeland in a new country. Eventually, the group raised enough money to create the hospital that is today known as Wyckoff Heights Medical Center.
Eventually, during the early 1900s real estate boom, the group was forced out of Brooklyn. Expanding to Long Island, they bought property from a German farmer in Franklin Square. Part of the land was to be used as an elderly home, and the other was designated as a building and beer garden for the society. And the rest is history!

The Main Restaurant
Our main building restaurant is open at 3 p.m. on Wednesday through Friday and 12 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It features an expanded menu of both authentic German specialties and continental cuisine. Reservations are accepted by phone and highly recommended.
Our main restaurant is also home to our bar, which has a juke box, big-screen HDTVs for sporting events like soccer and a large variety of German beers on tap and in bottles.
The Beer Hall at the Plattduetsche Biergarten
The Beer Hall at the Plattduetsche Biergarten is both a family-friendly venue and a different, fun choice for a day or night out. The expanded Beer Hall menu includes everything that one might find in a Munich biergarten, along with traditional German favorites and some continental choices to accommodate everyone.
It is open year-round on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but the hours depend on the time of year and the weather. During the warmer months, the Biergarten opens at 3 p.m. on Fridays and 12 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. In the winter, the Biergarten opens at 3 p.m. on Fridays, 5 p.m. on Saturdays, and 12 p.m. on Sundays.
Heritage & Tradition in Every Detail
The beer garden, or Biergarten as it’s known in Germany, originated in Bavaria during the 19th century when dark lager beer was predominant. Plattduetsche has been bringing this tradition to Long Island since the early 1900s. While the Beer Hall features many modern amenities, we still wanted to preserve our rich heritage and traditions for future generations.
The design includes many relics of our past. There are dining tables made from reclaimed bowling alleys discovered under three layers of wood flooring during the demolition of the previous building, as well as old floor planks repurposed as new wainscoting on the bars and walls.
The building provides two levels of indoor seating space with an environmentally-friendly, geothermal heating system, plus an indoor stage for use during cold or inclement weather. During the warmer months, the 12-foot glass doors on the sides of the building can be opened to the outdoor picnic area, joining the two spaces. Other amenities include two large bar spaces, free Wi-Fi access, big-screen HDTVs, a projection screen for sporting events, patios and a built-in sound system.
